Transfer of concepts, structures and knowledge between the German and Chinese Climate Impact Research in the field of water
Project head | Prof. Dr.-Ing. R. Hinkelmann |
Scientific assistant | Qing Zhang M.Sc. |
Project period | Juni 2012 - Dec 2014 |
Project partner | BfG Bundesanstalt für Gewässerkunde |
Description
The project contains two important research points:
Firstly is to examine the transferability of research results from KLIWAS (effects of climate change on waterways and shipping) to the study of the Chinese Yangtze river. This should contribute to the transfer of conceptual, structural, organizational and scientific / technical knowledge from the BMVBS’s research program of the KLIWAS and thus give a boost to China's climate impact research program with focus on the Yangtze River waterway.
Second is to examine the impact of sediments and the challenges of sediment management for the Yangtze River. This is to identify the importance of the sediments for Climate Impact Research, and it will be discussed in connection with Asia-specific issues and challenges for dealing with sediment / dredged material. Further, the transfer of options and approaches of sediment management between the European and Asian boundary conditions are to be investigated.
The work program includes work packages, which are carried out predominantly in the BfG in Koblenz and sometimes at the Institute of Civil Engineering at the TU Berlin due to the connection to the research program KLIWAS.
