The intension of this research is to verify the functioning of the detention ponds for water purification in agricultural areas including desalination, and to optimize the pond design for improving the water quality with highest water yield. The investigations include tests of aquatic halophytes for adsorbing salts in the ponds, application of hydrological and hydrodynamic models, in addition with tracer experiments in existing ponds. Finally, recommendations for project planning will be derived.
