The sliding of hillslopes is a result of the non-linear coupling of flow, mass transfer and deformation processes in the subsurface. An important, not fully understood key process is the fast infiltration of heavy rainfall via macropores into the subsurface; this significantly influences all following processes. Based on a model concept for multi-dimensional two-phase flow in fractured-porous media, suitable process models and coupling methods for the interaction of surface runoff, infiltration, especially preferential flow, and multi-dimensional flow in the subsurface will be developed and validated by means of infiltration experiments. For these purposes, three model concepts will be further developed and compared: combined model approach, coupling porous medium with a 1-d pipe and a double-continuum approach. In the second project period, mass-transfer processes should be included, the results should be transferred to a field case, the coupling to the deformation processes should be carried out and remediation measures should be investigated.
